LA TIMES:
Occupy Portland protesters arrested inside Wells Fargo Bank
November 17, 2011 “Protesters in Portland made it into a Wells Fargo Bank branch Thursday and managed to plant themselves there briefly before being hauled away by police — the most visible incident in a noisy but largely peaceful march through the city’s downtown bank district.
Two street marches in Seattle, meanwhile, were poised to get underway in the afternoon near the University of Washington to protest state budget cuts that have chiseled jobs and strangled higher education.
The mood in the Pacific Northwest — a region with a deep tradition of street protest theater — was raucous, celebratory and so far, except for a bit of shoving, lacking the kind of clashes with police that have erupted in recent days.”

We have a “deep tradition of street protest theater” in the Pac NW?  Huh.  I’ve been more focused on the fact that we have a recent tradition of police with itchy trigger fingers, as well as a large homeless population, many of whom are young, who’d sort of interwoven themselves with the Occupy Portlanders.  We also have a higher than average suicide rate for young people…again, many of whom are homeless.
At least they’re making statements now - maybe they’ll “visit” all the big banks, now that they’ve been shut out of camping in the parks.

At the town hall, Bachmann complained that undocumented immigrants are exempt from paying for the law, claimed that a seven-foot doctor told her the IRS had to approve medical procedures, and reiterated her long-standing view that doctors and hospitals would provide free care to the uninsured if they were shielded from malpractice claims…

It’s hard to make sense of any of Bachmann’s claims. Republicans successfully fought to keep undocumented immigrants from receiving tax credits through the exchanges and the [Affordable Care Act] does nothing to change the existing Reagan-era law that requires hospitals to provide health care to everyone in need of emergency services. Undocumented immigrants also paid $11.2 billion in taxes in 2010, including $8.4 billion in sales taxes, $1.6 billion in property taxes, and $1.2 billion in personal income taxes.

The seven-foot doctor’s claims are similarly dubious, since the IRS does not begin enforcing the individual requirement to purchase health insurance until 2014 — and even then, the penalty is processed through personal income tax returns and would not require a medical provider to call the agency. Finally, Bachmann’s oft-repeated solution to reducing the number of uninsured — shield doctors from lawsuits and they’ll provide free health care to anyone who needs it — is a poor idea, to put it charitably, and hasn’t actually increased access to providers in states with existing “liability shield” regulations.

Bachmann: A Seven-Foot Doctor Told Me Obamacare Requires The IRS To Pre-Approve Medical Treatments

We’re paying to ensure that Bachmann has the country’s best medical care, so how is it that this daffy bitch is off her meds?

(via ryking)

“off her meds”, indeed.  The entire first paragraph describing her statements sounds like hallucinations merged with bits of reality (ask any psych professional who’s worked the overnight shift).  She’s either irreversibly loony or she’s having some serious migraines.  I’m guessing the first….

Roadkill Craving of the Day: Mom-to-be Alison Brierley says her pregnancy has caused her to develop a strong craving for roadkill meat.
“It’s more gamey than other meat and I love the taste,” she says. “I also don’t have to feel guilty about eating it because I know it’s had a completely free range and natural life.”
A taxidermist who uses roadkill hides to craft jewelry, Brierley has dined on hare, deer, owl, and pigeon. “‘I would like to try fox and badger but they’re never in good enough condition to eat; although I have used them for my artwork,” she said.
Brierley says she has invited friends over to sample her new-found culinary quirk. “They trust me and they know I’m a good cook so I think they love it,” the 42-year-old is quoted as saying. “I get the best meat from friends who ring me up to tell me about a kill they’ve spotted on their way to work.”
Though she was already known to many as the roadkill chef from Channel 4’s Come Dine with Me, Brierley says her cravings have definitely intensified since she became pregnant.
